What Needs to Change
We cannot brush this off as a freak weather week. Infrastructure planning in the UK assumes a temperate, damp climate that simply no longer exists for chunks of the year.
Fire services need investment in specialized off-road equipment, mobile water tankers, and air support. Communities near grasslands or suburban fringes need better defensible space—cleared brush, firebreaks, and stricter building codes for roofing materials.
