Europe is finally waking up to its most terrifying military vulnerability, but the fix is years away.

While Western European countries argue over contracts, Ukraine is forced to innovate to survive. Ukrainian defence manufacturer Firepoint is quietly developing a domestic air defence system called Freyja (often spelled Freya).
Freyja is designed specifically to counter Russian ballistic and hypersonic threats. The project has become the "Flagship Project" of the new coalition. It combines Ukrainian software, battlefield telemetry, and rapid manufacturing with Western funding.
The goal is to get Freyja online by the first half of 2027.
This is where Europe's real hope lies. Ukraine has spent more than four years analyzing how Russian missiles fly, how they evade radar, and how they react to electronic jamming. That raw data is worth more than any laboratory simulation in Paris or Munich. If the coalition can successfully fund and scale Freyja, they might bypass the sluggish, bureaucratic Western defence procurement process entirely.
