The heat wasn't the only extreme weather making headlines over the weekend. A severe weather setup fueled by damaging winds caused chaos across parts of New South Wales and Victoria.
Strong gusts turned terrifying in public parks. Two separate incidents saw jumping castles lifted high into the air by sudden squalls. In Banksia, south of Sydney, children suffered head injuries and required hospital transport. Another incident in Mount Duneed near Geelong saw children hospitalized after their inflatable play area was violently tossed about by the wind.
Bureau of Meteorology forecasters explained that a powerful cold front was sweeping across south-eastern Australia simultaneously. This clash of systems created a violent cocktail of high winds, severe storms, and sudden temperature swings.
